Dr Bhavana Chawda
Dr Bhavana Chawda is an Associate Medical Director and Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist at the Black Country Healthcare Foundation Trust. She is one of the past Presidents of the British Indian Psychiatric Association having joined the association at its inception in 1998.
Dr Chawda’s MBBS degree is from Tirunelveli and DPM from Tanjore Medical College in Tamil Nadu, India. She obtained her primary degree at the West African College of Psychiatrists, in Nigeria. Since moving to the UK she has gained MRCPsych and an MSc degree in Healthcare Policy and Management.
She is a Staff Governor at her trust working collaboratively for the betterment of staff in her trust and the patients served by the trust.
Dr Chawda is keen to increase awareness of mental health issues at grassroots level, create opportunities for psychoeducation particularly in ethnic community settings, and empower women to take leadership roles within their career. She work closely with diaspora groups nationally and internationally.
Her strengths include being inclusive, openness, honesty, passion, hardworking, outgoing, with outspoken nature. She is a respected person who enjoys observing and commenting on the growth and success fellow professionals.
Outside her day job Dr Chawda is keenly interested in enjoying her hobbies of cooking, watching movies, dancing, walking, participating in half-marathons and volunteering.
